Remediation
Environmental Remediation Process
- baseline assessment,
- site investigation,
- remediation action plan (RAP),
- installation of the remediation system,
- operation of the remediation system,
- post-remediation monitoring.
General Overview
Environmental remediation aims to reduce contamination in groundwater and geological media, and to restore them to their original or near-original condition. Based on a successful site investigation, a cost-effective remediation technology is selected, taking into account the chemical and physical properties of the contaminant, the extent of contamination, and the geological and hydrogeological characteristics of the site. Once the target values are achieved, a post-remediation monitoring system is put in place to ensure that contaminant concentrations remain below the limit values for a minimum period of four years.
The Hungarian legal framework for environmental protection is established by Government Decree No. 219/2004 (VII.21.) and Joint Decree No. 6/2009 (IV.14.) of the Ministry of Environment and Water, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Agriculture, which sets the limit values necessary for the protection of groundwater and geological media.
